He Would Be King

Scripture:
Isaiah 9:6-7a “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end,”

Introduction:
Jesus Christ was and is the most important person to ever appear on this planet. The prophesies concerning Him began all the way back in the book of Genesis immediately after the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Unfortunately, most of the world doesn’t really understand the purpose of this man, Christ Jesus, seeing Him only as a good man, a prophet, a religious leader or a religious fake. However, when He began His public ministry, there were some who saw something more in Him and they were willing to embrace Him at all costs. Jesus was more than a cute little baby born in a manger with the cattle lowing and the shepherds kneeling. He was born to be a King.

I. There were those who believed that He would be King.
A. The wise men.
Matthew 2:1-2 “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
B. King Herod was so convinced that He tried to kill Him to eliminate any threat to his throne.
Matthew 2:16 “Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. “
C. John the Baptist did his best to introduce Jesus Christ as the King.
Matthew 3:1-3 “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” 3For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.’”
John 1:15 “John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’”
D. Paul preached Jesus as King in Thessalonica even though it was a dangerous thing to do.
Acts 17:5-7 “But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too. 7Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king—Jesus.”
E. His authority as King is established in the heavenlies.
1. The Word is the King.
John 1:1-7 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.”
2. John the Beloved had a spectacular vision of Jesus as the King of Kings.
Revelation 19”11-16 “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”

II. We’re blessed when we recognize Jesus as the King.
A. We have the privilege of becoming part of the family of God.
John 1:11-13 “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
B. We can come to Him and expect the miracle of healing for body, soul and spirit.
Matthew 9:35 “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.”
C. We receive revelation concerning the mysteries of the Kingdom of God.
Luke 8:10 “And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand.”
D. We are privileged to partner with Christ, through prayer, in the establishing of the Kingdom of God.
Matthew 6:9-13 “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

III. Jesus Christ can only be our King if we abdicate the throne that we’ve been sitting on.
A. A King is the ruler of a kingdom and a kingdom is the territory or country subject to the king or queen; the dominion of a monarch; the sphere in which one is king or has control.
B. Every kingdom has a king who upholds the laws, principles and precepts of the kingdom.
C. Many are a law unto themselves.
D. Jesus Christ invites us, with the authority given Him, to come and receive everything He has for us.
Matthew 11:25-30 “At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
