Written by Pastor Leon

  Jesus Is Lord

Scripture:
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Introduction:
Isaiah 9, verse 6 is a great prophetic verse about Jesus Christ who would come into this world to reestablish the government of Father God. The government that fell from Adam’s hand after the fall was being delivered into the hands of Jesus Christ who would establish the Kingdom of God once and for all. What was intended for Adam and Eve was being fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ.
Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over £all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

 I. Jesus is Lord.
  A. Jesus makes this declaration following His resurrection.
Matthew 28:18 “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
  B. Because He overcame, Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of Father God as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Revelation3:21 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
  C. Peter’s message on the day of Pentecost.
Acts 2:29-33 “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.”
  D. The meaning of the word “Lord”.
    1. A man of high rank in a feudal society or in one that retains feudal forms and institutions, especially:
     a. A king.
     b. A territorial magnate.
     c. The proprietor of a manor.
    2. Chiefly British. The general masculine title of nobility and other rank:
     a. Used as a form of address for a marquis, an earl, or a viscount.
     b. Used as the usual style for a baron.
     c. Used as a courtesy title for a younger son of a duke or marquis.
     d. Used as a title for certain high officials and dignitaries: Lord Chamberlain; the Lord Mayor of London.
     e. Used as a title for a bishop.
    3. Lord
     a. God.
     b. Christianity. Jesus.
II. Jesus is Lord over nature.
  A. He proves His Lordship by taking a nap during a storm. He is untroubled.
Matthew 8:25-27 “Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
  B. He proves His Lordship over nature by making it possible for Peter to walk on water.
Matthew 14:28-29 “And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

III. Jesus is Lord over life and death.
John 5:24-26 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. 25Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,”
  A. Jesus has life in Himself.
  B. Because He has life in Himself, He has authority over life and death.
John 10:17-18 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
  C. Because He is Lord, He can make the death to live again.
    1. Jesus raises Jairus daughter. (See Luke 8:40-56)
    2. Jesus calls Lazarus from the tomb. (See John 11:24-27)
  D. Jesus demonstrates the greater authority of life over the lesser authority of death in His resurrection.
    1. You won’t find Him in the tomb.
Matthew 28:5-6 “But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.”
    2. But you will find Him with the keys to the tomb.
Revelation 1:18 “18I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”

IV. Jesus is Lord over the spirit world.
  A. He delivers the demon possessed man at Capernaum.
Mark 5:12-13 “So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” 13And £at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.”
  B. It’s the anointing that delivers the power to break the bondage of the demonic world.
Acts 10:38 “38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
  C. Nothing can compare with the authority of Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:17-21 “17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”

 V. Jesus is Lord over humanity.
  A. Every knee will bow before Him.
Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
  B. His name is the only name through which we receive salvation.
Romans 10:12-13 “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

VI. Jesus is Lord over the church.
  A. Jesus Christ is the head of the body.
Colossians 1:18 “And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”
   B. All things are under His feet.
Ephesians 1:22-23 “And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

VII. Submit to His Lordship and let Christ exercise His authority over everything you are facing.
